Mmmm, I Love Burgers

I have had a love affair with burgers for as long as I can remember.  After my health issues surfaced last November, and I realized I had to do something  about it and that I had to drastically reduce eating them (among other things, of course).

That is, until I found a very good alternative available.  The LICK’s Gobbler turkey burger is low fat, high protein, and is delicious.  It comes on a whole wheat bun, and tastes every bit as good as the real beef homemade burger.  So, I’ve found a new friend, it seems!  Lunch was good – finger LICKING good.  I suspect I’ll indulge every couple weeks…

Ringette…

Ernise, who runs a Healthy Every Day blog that I read daily, asked me yesterday what ringette is.  Basically, it’s a sport played on ice, usually by females, and most closely resembles hockey.  Here’s a good wiki explanation of ringette. Thanks for asking Ernise!

Twittering…

I’m going to start twittering my daily food intake – my tweats – on my twitter feed @dadshrinks.  It might help me with accountability a little.  Check it out!

Daily Goal…

I woke this morning and decided to start posting meals consumed to twitter in an effort to be more accountable to myself  –  goal achieved, as you can see above!

Sleepyhead Needs Rest

I’m thinking sleep plays a pretty vital role in weight loss.

Daughter had a ringette game in Whitby last night and we didn’t get home until well after 11pm. I then helped her with some homework, did some organizing for work today, had a shower, and realized it was 1:30am before I hit the sack.  I was up at 6am.

So I’m exhausted today.  I then was too tired to make a solid effort and packing food (grabbing a couple Fibre1 bars hardly counts).  And my mind is making excuses already on why I’m too tired to get to the gym – although I’ll find a way to go anyway.

I’m also figuring sleep affects metabolism in some deep mysterious way.

When it boils right down to it, I need to grab some ZZZs a little earlier tonight.  Exhaustion will do little to help me along this transformation highway!

Morning Chuckle

My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She’s 97 now & we don’t know where the hell she is!

Goal of the Day

3 litres of water!  Need to stay hydrated and flush the crap out of my body.  And I find I feel a little better, as well as feel less hunger…

Back in the Saddle

Ahhh, it was a very relaxing long weekend at the cottage.  Watched Olympics all weekend, got home refreshed late last evening. Oh, and I ate far too much – not really junk food – just far too much food in general.  Overall an awesome getaway.

I did have a McDonalds Egg McMuffin this morning while rushing to work, but it was kinda planned last night that this morning would be my last indulgence.  I went to bed late, with a sick kid, and knew this morning would be a challenge. But overall I’m happy to say I’m back in the saddle again, ready to move on.

I’ve been toying with the idea of trying Weight Watchers for a couple weeks.  I was *this* close to doing it, but I just can’t find a meeting time & place that is ideal for my schedule.  Instead, I’m going to stick with what I’ve done so many times in the past – clean eating 5-6 small meals daily.  And exercise 4-5 times weekly.  I know it works.  I know how to do it right.  I just need to get and STAY motivated.

Random Thought…

I’ve done an awesome job of quitting Coke (haven’t had one since last November), but I’ve slowly fell victim to the diet variety.  I’m drinking 3-5 cans daily now.  Studies show diet cola may actually cause weight GAIN, and it’s terrible for your health otherwise, so I’m quitting cold turkey as of right now.  Mark my words – no more pop, period.

Goal of the Day…

I had McDonalds for breakfast this morning and didn’t bring any food to work, so the biggest goal for today is to get to a grocery store at lunch and pick up some healthy eating choices for the remainder of the day.  Simple goal, and I’m going to achieve it.

Sad News of a Passing

I’m really feeling bad for a friend – someone who I haven’t actually met – but an online friend who is inspirational as he strides along the journey that I’m trying to take in finding health and fitness.  His name is South Beach Steve, and his father passed away of a sudden, massive heart attack yesterday.  Having lost both of my parents in the past 7 years, my father to a heart attack and mother to a massive stroke, I have some sense of what Steve is feeling right now.  I’ll certainly be praying for Steve and family as the day goes on.

Okay, about my journey.  I obviously haven’t posted this week.  It’s a sign of what I’m struggling with.  Depression, overworked, stressed and feeling lousy overall.  All seem like great excuses to offer, but all are lousy excuses in reality.

I’m taking my wife and son to the family cottage this weekend, along with my brother and his family.  I’ve packed clean meals, and we’re planning on a snowy long weekend of downtime in front of the fireplace watching the Olympics on tv.  And it’ll give me some time to reflect on my goals, and what tools I need to adjust in losing weight and finding health.  It’s so refreshingly tranquil at the quite riverside place in Ontario cottage country.

I’ll be back blogging regular early next week (we get back in town late Monday evening) and I’m fully committed to do what it takes to find health and transform my life.  I promise, not just to you, but to me.  Only I can hold myself accountable to make the choices that will help me live longer, and enjoy more time with my wife and kids.

Have a great weekend folks!

Onwards and upwards…
